Catholic Charities West Virginia is a member of the state VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters), and participates in the Long Term Recovery committees. Catholic Charities WV is not a first responder. However, Catholic Charities WV is active in long-term recovery. “We are there to assist families that have been impacted by these devastating storms after the first responders have left,” said Kristen O’Sullivan Harrison, CCWVa Southern Region director and agency disaster coordinator. With 17 percent of West Virginia counties being affected by these storms, Catholic Charities WV must raise funds to sustain the long-term recovery work needed to ensure these families’ homes are safe and functional.
